I served at Ypenburg when the Government of the day made the decision to move its operations to Soesterberg. As a KVV Sargeant, my responsibilities included managing and tracking all life-time items for the Fokker Friendships. At the time of the move to Soesterberg, my Commander in Ypenburg considered it important for me to stay with and travel in one of the 2 tractor trailers required to transfer all aircraft documentation to Soesterberg. After arriving and with the 2 tractor trailors parked in the Hanger, I reported to my new Commanding Officer and communicated to him what my Ypenburg responsibilities had been. I was told that I would not continue in that role at Soesterberg. An existing Adjudant at Soesterberg would take over. A few months at Soesterberg, after Prins Bernhard was unable to fly south with the PHPBF Friendship one early morning because of a faulty alyernator, an alternator had to be cannalabised from an “active” Friendship until I advised them that there were in fact 2 Alternators in Soesterberg’s main warehouse. That afternoon, Bernhard returnded from Soestdijk, the Captain serving under my Commanding Officer was transferred to Germany and I got my old job back until I completed my 4 year KVV Contract and emigrated to Canada. One thing that also stayed wirh me all this time is that, although only staff below the rank of Officer were transferred to Soesterberg from Ypenburg. Most, if not all staff between Sargeant Major and Adjudant were transferred back to some function closer to Den Haag
